You may sometimes find that when you reinstall Windows XP, you will receive an error message telling you that access is denied if you try to open a previous directory of a user. There is a way to reclaim ownership of that folder. Log in with the account that has admin rights. Right click on the specific folder and select Properties. Go to the Security tab and click the button Advanced. Go to the Owner tab and click your name in the Names list. Click on the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. Last step would be to click OK and Yes, and then you are done.
